Elements

May 20 2006
Oh geez, I put a lot of effort into to. I’m really surprised at what I can do now, after spending so much time doing nothing at all.

This is Ba, a troll shaman from World of Warcraft in the dungeon 1 set, “Elements.”

Chicago Schroe

Like most of my work from near a decade ago, I’m embarrassed of “Chicago Schroe” now. And like most of my recent posts, I’m still going to share it with the Internet.

The art was simple, but inconsistent. The plot was based around my interests and acquaintances. It was terrible. When I got around to attempting a consistent art style, my hard drive failed. All data was lost, including the original flash files. I didn’t care, I just gave up.

Water God

Way back in high school, after making a watercolor painting of the original ice angel (variations of which was posted previously on SDO), I started making up a universe where various gods controlled planets and fought for dominance and such. One god lost her planet (pictured on the right, the zora ripoff), and came to Boe’s (also pictured previously, the white-haired individual) planet to steal it from her. This god’s name is Azula. Imagine my dismay when Avatar had a character many years later with the same name and the same personality I would role play her as.

Evil D&D

So at some point, when I was making decent art and didn’t have a job to get in the way of spending 13 hours straight on it, I did commissions. This is Azrael Dregnus, Paladin of Slaughter, done up for an online buddy. This was his D&D 3.5e character for an evil campaign. (The idea was to be running two games, where the players played both the good guys and the bad guys, and eventually they’d meet up.) The outline was done in Illustrator and the coloring and shading in Photoshop.

Since I haven’t posted much since Jonas’s birth, and no art at all in that time, here’s a piece that I still actually like. It’s half-scribble, half detail because I just didn’t want to work on it more than one day. One of the forum members of the Cork Board made a thread in which he said he’d write about any noun or whatever someone posted. “Ashtray” was suggested, and I decided that I was going to draw something based on that after the story was written. The story had nothing to do with the picture, and the picture had nothing to do with the story. Originally done 15 April 2004.

In baby news, babies are babies. True story. This baby o’ mine is so baby-like. Yup. He’s above his birth weight, finally, and eating like a pig. He’s got a habit of pooting up a diaper, and, five minutes after you change it, he poots up another (usually a big poot followed by a little fart of dirtiness). This by itself doesn’t bother me. He’s a baby, he stinks up his pants: that’s what babies do. No, what bothers me about it is that he’ll fart while I’m holding him and just look up at me, directly at my face. If he could talk, I’m sure he’d be asking for praise. He usually gets it, though. This kid has some killer farts. Loud, stinky farts that any beer-gutted NASCAR fan, or sane new parents, would be proud of.

Monday

Early update today from the laptop. I woke up about a half hour ago unable to continue sleeping through a headache, so I took some painkillers. They kicked in finally, but only mildly, and the alarm’s going to go off soon … oh well. Two more angels and the god figure mentioned before. Metal/Gemstone angel thing and the silk one. I started drawing her in flash when I was in high school and never finished. I don’t have the flash file anymore so I can’t finish unless I start over. God figure lady doesn’t need wings, nor does she need to explain herself to you!

Hatt

Today’s update is all thirteen episodes of Hatt.
I make no claims of quality, coherence, or … whatever.
No mind-altering drugs were consumed in the making of these comics (my pothead roommates hadn’t moved in yet).
Baby news coming tomorrow afternoon.

TF2 Icons

Alright kids, I made these. A year ago. They are vector traces of the shoulder patches on the TF2 classes.

I’ve had people ask for the AI file of these. You can have one when you put the effort into making them.

I’ve had people ask for the larger versions I posted TF2chan a while back. Those are here for the time being.

I’ve seen people claim that the Scout and Spy patches are “beta” or other assumptions even though it says in the original post’s description that I MADE THEM UP. There exist, created by Valve, the REAL Spy and Scout patches. I do not have tracings of those nor do I have any interest in tracing them on request. Spy one can be found on the Spy t-shirt Valve sells. Scout one can be seen on the Scout update page.

I MADE THIS SET. There may be people who have traced their own. There may be other people out there who are using this set without crediting me. They are not stealing my ideas, they are just cheapening my effort. I am not so attached to these things that I’ll deny anyone use of them, but that goes for THESE ONLY. My other tf2 stuff should not be used by other people without asking or crediting me, ESPECIALLY the non-traced stuff.

Angels of Ice and Fire

A couple of characters I never really went far with. There was one central god figure with angels assigned to different elements at her beck and call. In addition to these two were Silk (her wings were spiderwebs, too drow-like so I never really drew her), Metal (razorblade wings, I might have drawings of her I’ll post later), Wood (wings were leaves, body was treelike—think a flying dryad). That’s all I can recall right now. Also the story was based around each planet in the multi-verse having its own god figure, and the one that ruled these angels was created as a victim of one that lost her planet but managed to escape. Gosh, maybe I should write this story for once. I’ve had it in my head since high school.

Orcs Behaving Badly

It’s strange how something I put a lot of effort into when I was a teenager is so much more embarrassing to me than a quick MSPaint that ended up in an SA Comedy Goldmine in August of 2005. Go look at the whole thing. My one image is just a small portion of the greatness of SA Goons with MS Paint. If you forgot anything unimportant from 2005, there’s some pop culture references in there. And some memes. Just like any other goon-made thing. I had some other drawings that didn’t make the cut for the gold mine, and I apparently didn’t save them . . . but there was an orc DOUBLE-DIPPING! AT A PARTY!

HI IT IS MY BIRTHDAY

This is another one I’m not talking about. Okay, I’ll say something. I like the drawing. The “wallpaper” is stupid. DON’T JUDGE ME. The original drawing was pretty big, about a foot and a half tall. I actually had some big paper to draw on. Had to scan two parts and put it together.

Also Jorenko got me the BEST GIFT EVER: Munchkin.

I Hate Hospitals

die die dieSo much to do, so little energy to do it.
Spent overnight in the hospital for observation, everything is looking good.
Might be doomed to bedrest.
Had 36 week ultrasound. Scanner’s downstairs, so pictures of that later.
Sleep now.

Angel

mmm, sherbet

At the first anime convention I ever attended (and it should have been my last, really) I bought a new sketch book and this was page one. (Made it into a crappy wallpaper, too.) This image is over seven years old. It makes me feel old. It makes me remember friends I had that were less than stellar and only slightly fun to talk to…sort of how it’s fun to hang out with a room full of toddlers with duplo bricks and washable markers until one of them shits their pants. It was at the anime convention that I realized that the majority of anime fans are underage idiots that shop at Hot Topic or creepy adult males there to see scantly-clad underage girls. Skilled cosplay is impressive at conventions, and there was some really impressive cosplay, but it was rare. The majority of the people “in character” wore half-assed t-shirt conversions or just too-many-zippers store-bought crap. This was before hot topic started carrying naruto shit, too. Also there was this guy running the art auction at the end that would get mad any time someone pronounced manga as anything other than “mahn gah” (yes, that is how it should be pronounced, but we are not in Japan and the term has long been Americanized UNKNOT YOUR PANTIES PLEASE).

No.

whatI’m not talking
about this one.

Aeroplane

AeroplaneAeroplaneIn December of 2005, I worked at a grocery store part time. The late shifts with few customers allowed me time to doodle like crazy, and one of the doodles happened to be of my WoW hunter’s pet, Aeroplane the flying snake. (The hunter’s name was Schoolbus and was in the Beep Beep guild.)

My media choices were limited to receipt tape and ball-point pens, which created the image on the left. Since I wasn’t attending school at all at this time, I had a lot of free time during the day to mess with doodles. The result is on the right. It was originally posted on the Cork Board with instructions on how I made it and tips on stuff, but the majority of the people reading my site at the time didn’t understand photoshop at all beyond putting funny pictures together. There’s also not really much there to talk about. Click the images for larger versions.

Agent Smith Stamp

I remember when stamps were 29 cents :(
Agent Smith Stamp — Done for an Illustrator class. We had two weeks. I took two hours. 14 May 2003.

The above is the original description whenever it was I posted it last somewhere. The instructor wanted us to trace in illustrator some pop culture icon, and most people did some campy deals that took them forever because basic computer skills were beyond them.

ADMIRE MY ART!

Blue & Pan

Tallest Blue, the Invader Zim fan character of mine, happens to be the Godmother of Zekk and Sergie’s spawning, Pan.
And Blue spoils the child rotten. Pan likes Cherry Ice Sukkies.

Cammiluna (10:41:45 PM): now that;s what i call “shoulder blades!” *is shot*

She’s a brick . . .

House. Except she’s on the side of one. Hooray for graffiti, etc. I was bored today, so I took out a ball point and drew this pretty lady from scratch. I want her pants.

Fish Guard

I drew the sketch at the lake, and photoshopped intermittently during the day.
