Haha, oh joy, supervisor had a freakout moment because I took something to HR about someone he likes and thinks is a good employee … even though this guy has improperly scheduled the lighting at a particular chain several times (including one time where he shut OFF the lights at ALL STORES during business hours).

Well, this guy is a higher level tech than me, meaning he’s the one I have to go to when I need assistance. His responses to my inquiries are usually responded to with “it’s fine” without him actually looking at anything, or explaining why it’s fine when I ask for details. After the fourth time he didn’t answer my specific question on one store in one day, I forwarded the email to someone else who might know the answer, and he could not figure out what this guy did. While I was away at lunch, this second tech gets answers from the first one, and I finally get my answer.

I thanked him for the information, and he responds with a personal insult. His supervisor was made aware (my supervisor was not) and it was suggested that the issue be brought up with HR. As it was an insult directed at me, it was my call. This all happened last week.

Well, the gossip spread and other people heard about it, some people approaching me and suggesting “as a friend” that I take it to HR. The people suggesting this all disliked him, so I questioned their motives. Finally, today, someone who does NOT dislike him and has no reason to dislike him said that the comment he made is in direct violation of the company’s code of conduct and, whether anything comes of it or not, it should be brought to HR.

So I emailed HR and let the tech’s supervisor know that I was doing so. That supervisor informs me that he discussed it with my supervisor, and they will await HR’s response. My supervisor walks out to the parking lot with me after that and accuses me going behind his back and falling prey to manipulative gossip of people who are just trying to get that guy fired. He thinks that the person who convinced me to go to HR was the same guy who made a stink about my website and tried to get me fired.

I just laughed and informed him that I do not like the guy, and this is not the first time he has behaved in this manner toward me. I also told him I’m not usually offended by someone having a bad day, but one of my pet peeves is people not getting fired for not doing their job. (This guy has repeatedly screwed up the only thing he’s ‘in charge’ of, and cost the company over ten thousand dollars for his mistakes, yet still has a job). The only time I’ve ever seen anyone fired is when someone takes it beyond the supervisors, beyond the manager, and goes to corporate HR.

Supervisor felt betrayed that I didn’t include him because he defended me oh-so-well at the HR meeting about the website. It was blog post about being relieved that the holidays were over. I used some customer abbreviations and named the industry I work in (IT’S ENERGY MANAGEMENT) alongside some complaints about how annoying the holidays are. HR was more concerned that I might be dissatisfied with my job and would attempt something to screw the company somehow. Oh, and the meeting opened up with “I’m sure [supervisor] has already gone over this with you,” to which I replied, “No, this is the first I’m hearing of it officially. [Supervisor] has said nothing to me on the subject.” HR, of course, inquired how I had heard. “I overheard someone telling [supervisor] about it, and though my name was directly stated, it was clear it was about me.”

That “someone” was the manipulative jerk that the supervisor thinks “tricked” me into turning in that tech that made the personal insult directed at me.

Once again, let me just say that I do not like it when someone doesn’t do their job. I do slightly enjoy watching the little dance they do when they’re called on it.
